What the Lexus warranty covers, and the four terms it runs on
The Basic Warranty runs 48 months or 50,000 miles, the Powertrain Warranty 72 months or 70,000 miles, corrosion perforation 72 months and roadside assistance 48 months, both at any mileage. Two shorter terms run inside the basic one, with a ten-year hybrid battery term.

The first two stop at different times, so there is a period of ownership where the engine and transmission are covered and you pay for the smaller parts.
Two more terms run on time alone, whatever the mileage. Corrosion perforation runs 72 months regardless of mileage, and roadside assistance runs 48 months from the in-service date regardless of mileage. On the coast the corrosion term matters.
And inside the four-year basic warranty are two terms that stop after twelve months, wheel alignment and balancing among them.
Which parts of your coverage stop after twelve months?
Alignment and balancing run twelve months
Wheel alignment and balancing are covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles, inside a Basic Warranty that runs 48 months.
Six years against corrosion
The Corrosion Perforation Warranty runs 72 months regardless of mileage, on original body panels that corrode through.
Ten years on a hybrid battery
The Hybrid Battery Warranty is 10 years or 150,000 miles on 2020 and newer models, a separate term from the 8-year Hybrid Warranty.
How to check your coverage
Step 1: The car or the VIN is enough
Every term runs from that car's in-service date.
Step 2: Which of the four terms are still running
Basic, powertrain, corrosion and roadside all stop at different points.
Step 3: Wheel alignment, on its own term
It is covered for twelve months, while the basic term runs forty-eight.
Step 4: When a installed part was installed
The parts warranty runs twelve months from installation, or the rest of the new-vehicle warranty if that is longer.
Step 5: We will look underneath for corrosion
Perforation coverage runs six years regardless of mileage.
Step 6: On a hybrid, which battery term applies
Ten years or 150,000 miles covers the battery, and eight years covers the hybrid system.
Bring the VIN
Every warranty term starts from your car's in-service date.
So a general answer covers only part of it. Two cars of the same model year can have very different amounts of coverage left depending on when each was first registered.
Bring the car or the VIN. We will read the in-service date, tell you which of the four terms are still running, and put it on the lift to inspect the underbody while you are here.
We will give you the in-service date, since every warranty term on your Lexus runs from that day.
The basic warranty runs four years or 50,000 miles.
The powertrain warranty runs six years or 70,000 miles.
The hybrid battery carries its own longer term.
The start date can differ from the day you buy.
On a new car the terms start when you drive off. On a pre-owned one they started when the first owner did, and that date is the one to ask for.
What is not covered that I might expect to be?
Coverage is shortest on wear items and on replacement parts.
Wheel alignment carries a much shorter term.
Tires, wipers and brake pads are excluded from the warranty.
Anything installed after the car left the factory is excluded too.
Damage that comes from use is separate from a defect.
The list of exclusions is short. They are much easier to read now than on the day something fails.
Does servicing here protect it?
Yes, and each visit here builds the service record tied to your vehicle identification number.
The booklet sets the service intervals to follow.
Your Lexus booklet lists the parts and fluids to use.
Every receipt is worth keeping together with the car.
Warranty repairs are done at a Lexus dealer.
Following the schedule and keeping the paperwork protect your coverage, and servicing here puts every visit on file under the VIN.
Is anything covered for the life of the car?
A few items on your Lexus carry coverage for the life of the vehicle.
We will name the item that carries a lifetime term.
We will tell you whether it transfers to the next owner.
We will explain what that term covers and what it excludes.
We will show you where the terms are printed.
Ask us and we will show you which apply to your car, because they never run out.
What should I ask to see on the day?
We will have the warranty terms, the dates and the service history ready on the day.
We will bring the warranty booklet for this model year.
We will put the in-service date in writing.
We will show the service history, wherever the work was done.
We will check for any open recall on the vehicle identification number.
Four documents, five minutes. If any is missing, ask us for it.
What can I settle before I drive over?
We can confirm the dates by email, so you know what remains before you see the car.
We will give the in-service date of each car you consider.
We will say how many months of each term remain.
We will tell you whether the hybrid battery term applies.
We will book a time so the paperwork is ready.
Knowing the dates before you arrive changes which car you drive first. It takes one email.
Does your Lexus live near the water?
The corrosion term runs six years regardless of mileage and covers panels that have corroded through. Surface corrosion shows first, so we will put the car on the lift and look underneath with you.
6 months or 5,000 miles, then 12 months or 10,000.
A new hybrid
Ask for both hybrid terms
Battery is 10 years or 150,000 miles. The hybrid system is 8 years.
A battery electric Lexus
Ask about the roadside term
3 years unlimited, with a tow to home, a dealer or a charger.
A car in its second year
Ask about wheel alignment cover
It ended at 12 months or 12,000 miles.
A car kept near salt water
Ask for an underbody inspection
Perforation cover runs 72 months regardless of mileage.
A pre-owned Lexus
Ask for the in-service date
Powertrain runs 72 months from there, not from your purchase.
Every term, and when each one stops
1. How long does each warranty term last?
Coverage
The term
How it is measured
Basic Warranty
48 months or 50,000 miles
Whichever occurs first.
Powertrain Warranty
72 months or 70,000 miles
Whichever occurs first.
Corrosion Perforation Warranty
72 months
Regardless of mileage.
Roadside Assistance
48 months
Regardless of mileage, from the in-service date.
Hybrid Battery Warranty
10 years or 150,000 miles
On 2020 and newer hybrid models.
Hybrid Warranty
8 years or 100,000 miles
A separate, shorter term from the battery one.
The Basic Warranty is 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, and the Powertrain Warranty is 72 months or 70,000 miles. So there is a period, roughly years four to six, where the engine and transmission are covered and you pay for the smaller parts.
Two of the terms ignore mileage entirely. The Corrosion Perforation Warranty runs 72 months regardless of how far the car has been driven, and covers repair or replacement of an original body panel that develops perforation from corrosion.
Roadside Assistance runs 48 months from the vehicle's in-service date regardless of mileage, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, across the continental United States and Canada.
On a hybrid there are two more, and they are routinely confused with each other. The Hybrid Battery Warranty is ten years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, on 2020 and newer models. The separate Hybrid Warranty is eight years or 100,000 miles. If someone quotes you a hybrid figure, ask which of the two they mean.
On a battery electric Lexus the roadside term changes again: three years with unlimited mileage, and an out-of-charge vehicle is towed to your home, the nearest Lexus dealer or a public charging station within 25 miles.
Bring us the VIN and we will read the in-service date, which is where all of these start.
2. Two things inside the basic warranty stop after twelve months
The item
How long it is covered
Why it matters
Wheel alignment
12 months or 12,000 miles
Inside a basic warranty that runs 48 months.
Wheel balancing
12 months or 12,000 miles
The same short term.
Lexus Service Parts Warranty
12 months regardless of mileage
From the date the part was installed.
Or, if longer
The remainder of the new-vehicle warranty
Whichever gives you more.
Tires
Not covered at all
They carry the tire maker's own warranty.
Normal maintenance parts
Treated as maintenance
Unless a defect in materials or workmanship is found.
The Basic Warranty runs 48 months, but wheel alignment and balancing are covered for only twelve months or 12,000 miles inside it. That is the term to remember, because a car that starts pulling to one side in its second year is past it.
The Lexus Service Parts Warranty is the other short one: twelve months regardless of mileage from the date the part was installed, or the remainder of the applicable new-vehicle warranty if that is longer, with batteries excepted. So a part installed early in the car's life takes the longer term, and one installed late gets twelve months of its own.
Tires are not covered by the Lexus warranty at all. They are covered by a separate warranty from the tire manufacturer instead.
Lexus also excludes noise, vibration, cosmetic conditions and other deterioration caused by normal wear and tear, and parts that are normal maintenance items replaced as part of normal maintenance service are not warranted unless a defect in materials or workmanship is found.
None of that is unusual. Know it before you need it.
3. What LexusCare includes before you pay for anything
The visit
When it falls
What is done
First scheduled service
6 months or 5,000 miles
Whichever comes first.
What that visit covers
Tire rotation and pressures, fluid levels, maintenance reminder reset
Plus a floor mat check and a brake inspection.
Second scheduled service
12 months or 10,000 miles
Whichever comes first.
What that visit covers
Engine oil and filter, tire rotation, road test
With a brake pad, caliper and rotor inspection.
Start of the coverage
The day the vehicle is purchased or leased
The day of purchase or lease.
The oil grade
0W-20
Specified by Lexus for the second visit.
Every new Lexus comes with LexusCare, and the complimentary part is specific: the first and second scheduled maintenance services, provided at six months or 5,000 miles and at twelve months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first in each case.
The first visit covers a tire rotation and pressure adjustment, a reset of the maintenance reminder light, a check of the driver's floor mat installation, inspection and adjustment of all fluid levels, programming Lexus Personalized Settings if you ask, and a visual inspection of the brake pads, calipers and rotors.
The second adds the oil: engine oil and oil filter replaced with 0W-20, another tire rotation and pressure adjustment, another reminder reset, a road test, another floor mat check and a visual inspection of the brake pads, calipers and rotors.
Complimentary maintenance begins the day the vehicle is purchased or leased, and covers factory-recommended maintenance performed by Lexus-trained technicians under normal driving conditions.
LexusCare is also the name Lexus gives to the rest of the coverage: the four-year, 50,000-mile new-vehicle Limited Warranty and, on hybrid models, the ten-year, 150,000-mile Hybrid Battery Warranty.
4. Your warranty, and where the work is done
The situation
Where it happens
What it means for you
Routine maintenance
Anywhere that keeps to the Owner's Manual schedule
Servicing here puts every visit on the VIN's file, with Lexus-trained technicians and genuine parts.
Anything we recommend beyond the schedule
Listed as our recommendation, with the reason
Not required to keep coverage. You decide with the list in front of you.
A warranty repair
Through an authorized Lexus dealer
Any authorized Lexus dealer will perform it. Bring it to us and we handle the claim.
Proof of what was done
Keep every invoice
Dated and showing the mileage. Ours goes on file automatically.
These are two questions people often mix up: where you have the car maintained, and where the warranty pays for a repair.
Routine maintenance that follows the Owner's Manual schedule keeps the warranty in force wherever it is done, and anything we recommend beyond that schedule is marked as ours, with the reason. Warranty repairs themselves are carried out through an authorized Lexus dealer, and any authorized Lexus dealer will perform them.
Servicing here keeps the record complete against the VIN, with Lexus-trained technicians and genuine parts, which makes every warranty conversation shorter.
5. What matters most on the Lowcountry coast
The coverage
The term
Why it matters here
Corrosion perforation
72 months, regardless of mileage
Salt air works on a body long before a panel perforates.
What perforation means
The panel has corroded through
Surface corrosion is a different thing.
The panels it applies to
Original body panels
A replaced panel is a different case, so ask.
Roadside assistance
48 months, regardless of mileage
Useful on the drives to Charleston and Savannah.
On a battery electric Lexus
3 years, unlimited mileage
An out-of-charge car is towed home, to a dealer or to a public charger within 25 miles.
The corrosion term is the one to pay attention to if the car is kept near salt water. It runs 72 months regardless of mileage, which means a low-mileage car keeps it as long as a high-mileage one, and it covers repair or replacement of an original body panel that develops perforation from corrosion.
The key word is perforation. The panel has to have corroded through. Surface corrosion is a different matter, and on the coast it appears first, which is why an early inspection pays off.
Bring it in and let us look underneath before anything shows on the paint. The inspection is free, and corrosion is much cheaper to fix when it is caught early.
The roadside term matters too if you drive to Charleston or Savannah regularly, because it runs on months, not miles: 48 months from the in-service date, whatever the odometer says.
What was it like for people who bought here?
You have more than one in the household
Two Lexus vehicles of different ages will be at different points on all four terms. We can read both for you.
I recently had my Lexus RX as well as my wife’s in for service at Hilton Head Lexus. My service specialist was Chip Booth who is outstanding. We were both extremely pleased with our service experience.
Warranty work and paid work appear on the same invoice, and we mark which line is which for you.
From being greeted as I pulled in, to the coffee and muffin, to a comprehensive outline as to the service that was done, I had a wonderful experience. My service advisor, Max, does a great job.
Some of what a car needs falls inside the warranty and some falls outside it, and we lay out both for you.
First rate service and efficiency. Justin was very cordial and presented all the service options without being pushy. I will return to this dealership for my next service as well as for my next new car.
You own it at the end, with no mileage limit.
It costs less per year the longer you keep it.
Finance
Pay for the car monthly over a term you choose. We show you the rate, the term and the total before you sign.
Lease
Lower monthly payment on the same car, with a mileage limit and a condition check when you turn it in.
Trade in
We appraise your current car and put its value in writing, as its own figure beside the price of the new one.
